National Criminal History Checks for Individuals
Individuals may request a national criminal history check on themselves. For example, a person may be required to present a National Police Certificate as part of employment screening, as a pre-requisite for volunteer work, as preparation for a court appearance, to apply for a visa to enter/stay in some countries, or to satisfy a statutory requirement.
Individuals may seek a national criminal history check through two ways:
- Their local police service. Please select the link to the state or territory where you reside. From there you can locate the relevant application form to be completed/forwarded to your police service for processing of your own national criminal history check
- A CrimTrac-accredited “broker” e.g. commercial background checking service provider authorised to conduct national criminal history checks for and on behalf of its customer. Select the link to the NPCS Accredited Agencies List. From there you can locate a broker which may be authorised to service an individual.
